The 351-kilowatt solar system atop of the Collège Catholique Mer Bleue is a collaboratively developed solar project by the CECCE, Ottawa Renewable Energy Co-operative, iSolara, and of course Execon Roofing and Solar. The Ottawa Renewable Energy Co-operative (OREC) and its members funded the project for the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) to buy back the system over time. The system was developed by the engineers at iSolara and the construction work was managed by Execon Roofing and Solar.
Construction for the project began at the end of July 2020, before school started in early September 2020. This commercial solar system has more than 950 rooftop solar panels, producing over 350,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable energy every year for the Collège Catholique Mer Bleue. Located in Orleans, Ontario, this system will also offset 35% of the school’s annual electricity consumption, saving the school tens of thousands of dollars each year.
